Prepare your bodies for winter with the Nourish & Move programme

As the days get shorter and colder, and we head towards the festive period when we tend to get very busy with social activities and preparations, sometimes we find ourselves running on fumes and that can lead to a fall in our immunity from the winter ailments.

To prepare yourself for winter, Healthiest Town is encouraging people to nourish their bodies this autumn with more movement and good wholesome food.

Community cooking

Kicking of the autumn programme is a series of chef-led community cooking workshops. Running from October 24 to November 21, the classes are designed and led by a Ballintaggart chef whose aims are to show simple and healthy meals are also tasty and satisfying when you cook from scratch.

The sessions will cover:

  • Dahl and curries on Thursday October 24

  • Pulses, beans and lentils on Thursday October 31

  • Easy kids' meals on Thursday November 7

  • Healthy snacks on Sunday November 10

  • Weekend brunch on Thursday November 21

Whether you’re a regular in the kitchen or new to cooking, these sessions are for everyone. Classes cost just £6 and can be booked via Eventbrite.

Movement motivation

Now is also a good time to shine the spotlight on all the sports and activities that are taking place to help motivate us to get the blood flowing and work up an appetite for those delicious home-cooked meals.

We are encouraging people to aim to try at least five new activities over the autumn months from the list of 11 below.
